What an MVP is actually supposed to prove
An MVP is not a small version of the product. It is an instrument for answering one question, and most of them are built without anyone naming the question.
Don't automate the process you were about to delete
Automation has become cheap enough that the constraint moved. The hard part is no longer building the automation — it is choosing which work deserves one.
The boring architecture that scales
Most systems that fall over do not fail for interesting reasons. They fail because of a query without an index, a synchronous call that should have been queued, and no alerting to notice either.
Software costs are mostly year two
Build cost is the number everyone compares. It is also the smaller half of what a system will cost you, and the decisions that determine the larger half are all made during the build.
